The purpose of the BUMP sign is to give warning of a sharp change in the profile of the roadway that is sufficiently abrupt:
- to create a hazardous discomfort to passengers;
- to cause a shifting of cargo; or
- to deflect a vehicle from its intended course when the bump is crossed at the posted speed limit.
